Conservative sports commentator and writer Jason Whitlock gave a highly controversial take on the Tyre Nichols incident in Memphis. Nichols, a 29-year-old black male, was pulled over by police and subsequently beaten to the point of hospitalization. He died three days later as a result of his injuries. Five police officers, all relatively young black males in their late 20s and early 30s, were fired and then charged with crimes relating to Nichols’ death.
Mainstream media cannot truly blame race in this case because everyone involved was black. However, some pundits are trying to insert “whiteness” or “white supremacy” as a talking point to point the finger at. Jason Whitlock appeared on Fox News alongside Tucker Carlson to dispel that notion. Whitlock mentioned that an unbridled single-mother culture in the black community creates young black men who are out of control. He was referring to the wonton nature of the police beating. Whitlock said the incident reminded him of “gang violence” which is all too common in areas run by single black women. His reaction has essentially gone viral, catching the attention of Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson’s wife, the famous singer Ciara.
