Joy Behar of “The View” recently made a disgusting remark about the victims of the East Palestine, Ohio tragic accident. Nearly three weeks ago, several train cars carrying the toxic chemical vinyl chloride crashed in the middle of the small town. The chemicals spilled, leaching into the ground and into nearby bodies of water. The Government had the idea to burn the chemical off to prevent further damage. This created a toxic cloud that returned “acid rain” back down to the ground. At first, not much attention was paid to the story. Social media and alternative media forced the issue until it gained the attention of the general public and the Federal Government.
Many news commenters have given their opinion about the accident. Nearly every outlet criticized the rail company, Norfolk Southern. They also questioned the Federal Government for saying that the area was safe despite residents saying they were experiencing breathing and skin complications. Politics was not mentioned much, beyond the inaction of the current administration. Joe Biden has yet to visit East Palestine. He instead took a visit to Ukraine and then Poland. Donald Trump, however, did visit East Palestine and donated a lot of goods to the people on the ground.
Joy Behar decided to deviate from the opinion of most news outlets and pundits. She essentially blamed the citizens of East Palestine for the accident, stating that Trump rolled back regulations that could have prevented this accident. And since this particular region of Ohio is “Trump Country”, then the voters are to blame. This is inappropriate for a variety of reasons, the first of which is that regulations would not have prevented the tragedy. It was purely an accident. Second of all, just because people vote for political “opponents” of The View, or any other show, does not mean that they deserve to be victims of a natural disaster or any other form of harm. Even the live studio audience gasped when Behar gave her remarks about Ohio.
