South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law on his country only to lift it a short time later in a dramatic turn of events. Yoon first announced the order in an attempt to weed out traitorous members of Parliament with sympathy toward North Korea. People on the ground in South Korea say this decision came out of nowhere. Parliament voted against Yoon’s decision in a 190-0 vote. By law, the President of South Korea must abide by the will of Parliament’s vote. Yoon is reportedly extremely unpopular and facing impeachment. He is also a lame duck President, meaning that he is on the way out anyway. This is being viewed as a political move instead of one about national security, although the motive for it is yet unknown… aside from what has already been said about national security.
