Luigi Mangione, the suspect accused of shooting United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, was apprehended inside of a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The 26-year-old was identified by an employee of the fast food chain who recognized him from pictures released by NYPD. Reports say that Mangione had the 3D-printed pistol and suppressor on his person at the time of his arrest. He also had several fake IDs, including the one he used in Manhattan before shooting Brian Thompson dead.
Mangione also possessed a rambling manifesto in which he put blame on the health insurance industry for what he did. This may or may not be due to the grueling back surgery he had a few months ago. Drugs could have played a role in Mangione’s decision as he railed against the industry for pushing drugs onto people… something he may have experienced personally due to the nature of his injury and surgery. Financial hardships for Mangione probably did not factor into the equation, as he comes from a wealthy family in Maryland.
