A judge in Florida used a virtual reality (VR) headset in court to determine the validity of a “stand your ground” defense. The defense maintains that their client pulled out a gun at his wedding venue for self-defense purposes. This marks the very first time that such technology has been used in any Florida court. If successful, the case will not go to trial due to successful application of the “stand your ground” defense. If unsuccessful, the case will head to a jury trial and they may be privy to the same use of technology that the initial judge was.
