Stephen A. Smith and Democratic House Rep Jasmine Crockett both crashed out over criticism of DEI programs. Smith spoke about DEI during his program in response to Trump questioning if it had anything to do with recent plane crashes. Jasmine Crockett appeared on television and ranted about “mediocre white boys” who criticize DEI.
DEI, or Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, is a set of workplace initiatives that came about after the George Floyd incident in 2020. The stated goal was for outreach and upliftment of minorities in corporate spaces. The term “minority”, however, has been weaponized and used as instrument to market programs that do not help the most vocal audience which is black people. Politicians and mainstream media talking heads have been pushing forward a narrative that labels any critic of DEI racist. In reality, DEI programs do not help black people. The majority of DEI positions have gone to white women and to those identifying as LGBT.
