Stanley Zhong, an Asian genius Google engineer, is suing the University of California for race discrimination. His father, Nan Zhong, is listed with his son on the lawsuit filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of California. Despite having a 4.4 GPA and scoring a 1590 on his SAT, Stanley was rejected by 16 colleges including some lower-level state schools in California and other parts of the country. His academic capability and overall intelligence are not in question as he was hired as a PhD-level engineer straight out of high school by Google. The issue Stanley faces is something that impacts many white and Asian students throughout the country… racial discrimination.
Universities all over the country appear to have placed “diversity” above merit when it comes to not only admissions but also the hiring of staff. The goal of these institutions is to gain more black and Hispanic staff and students. The only way to accomplish this is to judge them on things other than merit, such as “personality” tests. Asians often perform poorly in the personality test. Unnecessary and irrelevant tests of character are what universities cling to as an excuse for white and Asian students not being admitted despite stellar academic and extra-curricular records. Stanley and Nan Zhong wish to see this practice eliminated for future Asian students so they have a chance to achieve higher education and truly thrive in this country.
