San Francisco lawmakers have introduced a tiered-level system of issuing speeding tickets in an effort to reduce fatalities and injuries in high-risk areas of the city. Speed cameras were installed in specific places to enforce newly-reduced speed limits. If a person is caught going over the speed limit, then they will be ticketed and fined on a sliding scale. Tickets will range from $50 to $500 and what someone pays will be determined by how fast they were going. Also, the amount that someone pays will be discounted if they make below a certain amount of money. If they’re homeless, they will receive an even larger discount. This tiered-level of pricing and enforcement feels like a punishment for successful people and yet another handout to poor people.
