President Donald Trump interviewed with Kristen Welker on NBC’s “Meet The Press” on Sunday. The interview was over 90 minutes and over 100 questions were asked and answered. Some of the interview did not make NBC’s airwaves, such as the question and answer about the election being “rigged” or not. One of the standout moments from the interview that did make it to the airwaves was the period of time dedicated to speaking about tariffs. Kristen Welker presented the grievances of some people around certain goods increasing in cost such as strollers.

Trump pointed out that overall inflation has come down in the three months that he has been in office, with energy being the main focal point. The President said that the cost of energy took up 60% of inflation, so to reduce that immediately helps Americans’ pocket book. Trump also stated that the tariffs are meant to be used as a tool to negotiate with nations around the world, especially China, so the out-of-control trade deficit becomes a bit more realistic and manageable.
