Democratic state lawmakers in Minnesota were shot in their homes near Minneapolis early Saturday morning. State House Rep Melissa Hortman was shot alongside her husband, Mark, and they both did not survive. State Senator John Hoffman and his wife were also shot but they, as of the writing of this article, have survived although they are in critical condition.
The attacks are both believed to be politically motivated. The shooter is believed to be the same person in both incidents. Police apparently exchanged gunfire with the alleged shooter outside of Melissa Hortman’s home. The shooter was able to retreat back into the home and ultimately escape on foot. Early reports say the shooter impersonated a police officer with a vest, a realistic badge, and a convincing vehicle outfitted with police lights.
