Back in the day when the Democrats’ lawfare against President Donald Trump was at its peak, then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi organized a partisan committee to “investigate” the Jan. 6, 2021, protest-turned-riot at in Washington.

The members demanded that former Trump adviser Steve Bannon testify, in the hope he could reveal something bad about Trump. He refused and they prosecuted him, sending him to jail for four months.

Now a federal prosecutor is asking a judge to cancel the indictment and the conviction, even though Bannon already has served time.

According to a report at Just the News, the Department of Justice asked the Supreme Court and a federal judge to dismiss the indictment and conviction against Bannon..

The court filing said the actions would be in the “interests of justice.”

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche explained the Democrat-controlled House January 6 Select Committee refused to properly form, so its resulting legal actions are void.

The request follows years of decisions and condemnations from the committee that were based solely on politics. That’s known because committee members refused to consider evidence that Pelosi herself was negligent in allowing the protests – she did admit that on video after all – and they orchestrated information against Trump.

For example, they brought in a professional public relations expert to control the presentation of their selected information against Trump.

“The government has determined in its prosecutorial discretion that dismissal of this criminal case is in the interests of justice,” Solicitor General John Sauer told the Supreme Court.

The justices there already were considering an appeal from lawyers representing Bannon, and if the new strategy succeeds, that case could be dropped without further action.

Federal prosecutors, on the orders of Democrats in Congress at the time, responded to demands from the select committee after Bannon declined the respond.

“The government has accordingly lodged a motion in the district court under Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 48(a) to vacate the judgment and dismiss the indictment with prejudice,” the court filing explains.

According to Just the News, “Separately, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Perro asked a federal judge in Washington D.C. to vacate Bannon‘s conviction and dismiss the indictment.”

Blanche told the publication the scheme against Bannon was part of a larger “weaponization machine” used by Democrats to abuse justice at the time.

“Today the Department of Justice told the Supreme Court that Steve Bannon’s conviction arising from the J6 ‘Unselect’ Committee’s improper subpoena should be vacated,” Blanche said. “Under the leadership of Attorney General Bondi, this Department will continue to undo the prior administration’s weaponization of the justice system.”

Politico reported that the Supreme Court was awaiting a response from the Department of Justice on Bannon’s appeal of his conviction at the time.
