Federal officials have confirmed their ongoing review of state voter rolls already has revealed that “tens of thousands” of noncitizens are registered to vote, and “hundreds of thousands” of dead people still are on the rolls.

Harmeet Dhillon, the assistant attorney general for civil rights, said in an interview with Just the News that her office is working diligently on cleaning up the election system and improve its integrity, but often is blocked by state elections offices and some federal judges who are opposed politically to that.

“It’s really frustrating that we’re being prevented from doing our job,” she explained.

She said that 16 states have turned over their voter rolls to DOJ or signed memos regarding the data, but another 29 are in the midst of litigation that is expected to compel them to reveal their numbers.

“We want every American citizen to feel confident in voting and feel confident in the outcome of that election, and that is why we’re undertaking this massive project,” she said.

So far the revelations have been concerning: “We’re finding tens of thousands of noncitizens on the voter rolls, hundreds of thousands of dead people on the voter rolls, and duplicate registrations between states,” she confirmed.

States aren’t cooperating for two reasons, she said, as some don’t want the DOJ looking at their work and others are afraid of being sued by leftist organizations.

“You may ask, why don’t states clean it up themselves? Well, sometimes it’s just inefficiency, but more times it’s actually states wanting to clean up their voter rolls, and the Marc Elias’s of the world and even the DOJ (under Biden) are suing them to stop them from cleaning up their own voter rolls,” she told Just the News. “And so, you know, I don’t blame states, in a way, because it’s whiplash. You know, suddenly the federal government is saying, ‘Please do your jobs.’ A year ago, they were saying, ‘Don’t do your jobs.’”

Prosecutions are happening, she said. Just weeks ago, the DOJ obtained an indictment of an illegal alien from Africa for voting, illegally, in seven federal elections in Pennsylvania.

“Illegal aliens should NOT be electing American leaders,” Deputy Assistant Homeland Secretary Lauren Bis said. “Our elections belong to American citizens, not foreign citizens. Congress must pass the SAVE America Act immediately to secure our elections.”

Dhillon said there are dozens such cases being developed.
