Ayanna Pressley, the Democratic House Rep from Massachusetts, has re-introduced Bill H.R. 40. This bill is to study slavery reparations. The monies, of course, are supposed to go to Black American descendants of slavery. Such a bill raises optimism and hope in many people nationwide. However, nothing is likely to come of the bill. This is year 36 of the Bill being introduced.

House Rep John Conyers introduced the bill in 1989 and he reintroduced it for 30 years until he died. After Conyers, Sheila Jackson-Lee introduced the bill until she died. Now, the proverbial “torch” has been passed to Ayanna Pressley. She is likely to to do the same thing that her predecessors did. Simply hold a short press conference to state that they will be studying a thing that has been studied for over a hundred years, with nothing to show for it.
