President Trump delivered a speech before a joint session of Congress that it usually called “The State Of The Union Address” every year aside from the first year of a new term, even if it is the President’s second term. The speech was essentially the same as other SOTU addresses as it relates to format and intent. Trump’s speech this year was the longest on record, taking that title away from President Bill Clinton.
Democrats were, of course, in protest mode as House Rep Al Green was almost immediately kicked out for disorderly behavior. Other Democrats held up signs that resembled something seen at a bingo or auction. Female House Democrats wore all pink as a show of solidarity and protest. Some Democrats even walked out of the speech as it happened.
Trump hit quite a few points that resonated with the American people as only 31% of the audience disapproved of his speech, according to CNN. The President, flanked by Vice President JD Vance and Speaker Mike Johnson, spoke about issues that directly affect the American people. Jobs, security, the southern border, and wasteful Government spending were some of the hot topics of conversation. These issues got tremendous applause from the Republican side of the aisle but zero response from Democrats.
As is the case with most State of the Union addresses, there were guests in the crowd who were brought up during the speech. The families of Laken Riley, Corey Comperatore, and other people victimized by the awful policies of the previous administration were in attendance. One young man was hopeful to attend West Point and was informed that he was accepted live during the speech as he was in the audience.
Another young guy, a 13-year-old boy named DJ Daniel, was in the audience with his father. He suffers from brain cancer and has had multiple brain surgeries. He was given just a few months to live and that was many years ago. The President surprised the young man, who had dreams of becoming a police officer, with an honorary admission into the Secret Service. The director of Secret Service, Sean Curran, presented DJ with the badge in a heartwarming moment.
Much of leftist media hated the speech and viewed it as a “stunt” when people were highlighted in the audience. Their focus was obviously to refuse to say anything positive about the speech although there were some moments that should have ascended beyond politics.
