British “intellectual” Douglas Murray and American comedian/podcaster Dave Smith both responded to critics of their debate on the Joe Rogan podcast. Dave Smith took to his own platform to address the issue while Douglas Murray appeared on a separate show to give his side of the story. Smith said that Murray did not show up to the debate in good faith. He had another purpose… an ulterior motive. Smith went on to say that the first 40 minutes of the “debate” consisted of Murray attempting to discredit him. He stated that Murray used tactics such as an “appeal to authority” to discredit him.

Douglas Murray, on the other hand, stated that his purpose was to send a message to Joe Rogan and Dave Smith for platforming “fringe” ideals that should not be in the mainstream. This is an understandable point of view for the so-called “conservative” British voice, however, it confirms what Dave Smith and others said about him not showing up to the debate in good faith.

If two people agree to debate, then they should show up and do just that. It is up to the viewing audience to determine who had the better ideas and factual information. To try and poison the well and turn the audience against someone without exchanging ideas simply does not work for the majority of people, hence the backlash against Murray and the support for Smith.
