Daily Show host Jon Stewart recently criticized so-called “MAGA” conservative influencers for their anti-war stance on Iran. Israel struck Iran’s nuclear facilities a few days ago and there has been missile barrages back and forth ever since. People like Jack Posobiec, Steve Bannon, Charlie Kirk, and Marjorie Taylor Greene have all spoken out against USA involvement in the war. When Stewart played the clips of these people denouncing the war, members of the daily show live audience groaned and booed. It is unclear if they were booing the people being shown because of their prejudice toward them or if they booed the anti-war stance.
Jon Stewart’s point was that it is hypocritical for these influencers to rail against Americans fighting Iran while they advocate for military intervention on the streets of America. He was referring to the riots in places like Los Angeles where police and National Guard have been deployed. Stewart says MAGA influencers have no problem fighting 77 million Democrats in America while they don’t want to fight abroad. This is a stretch of reasoning at best because it is the duty of the United States Government to protect the citizens of the country in which they serve. Fighting foreign wars, in the opinion of the majority of Americans, is not the primary objective or responsibility of the Government.
