Democrat Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass on Monday demanded federal agents leave the scene at a MacArthur Park immigration raid.
When Bass arrived on the scene, a reporter asked her for a comment in a video shot by Fox 11 Los Angeles and posted by Fox 11 anchor Elex Michaelson on X. “My comment is they need to leave and they need to leave right now!” Bass exclaimed. “They need to leave because this is unacceptable. Just wait and see. They will be leaving soon.”

A reporter asked who Bass had just gotten off the phone with.
“The head of customs,” she responded.
Numerous immigration agents raided the park on Monday, including some riding horses and some wielding rifles in armored vehicles, the Los Angeles Times reported. The park has been crime and drug-ridden in recent years.

Protesters yelled and cursed at agents as they demanded they leave the park, according to the outlet.
Around 90 California National Guard were also deployed to the park, which is in a neighborhood containing a substantial population of immigrants, according to The Associated Press. They were only in the park for around an hour.
Riots also took place in June after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in Los Angeles County, causing President Donald Trump to deploy the National Guard to the city after two days of violent clashes between protesters and law enforcement.

Democrats have appeared at ICE facilities and other federal property in protest of the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement.
For instance, Democratic Newark Mayor Ras Baraka accompanied New Jersey Democratic Reps. Robert Menendez, LaMonica McIver and Bonnie Watson Coleman on a tour of the Delaney Hall Detention Facility, but were denied entry in May.
Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters was also denied access to the Los Angeles Federal Building in June when she tried to check on Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local President David Huerta, who was detained during ICE raids, according to eyewitness accounts shared via social media.
