
Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic Socialist who stormed onto the national political scene in recent months, was elected mayor of New York City Tuesday night, defeating Independent Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa.

He will become the Big Apple’s first-ever Muslim mayor, collecting just over 50% of the vote, compared to 41.2% for former Gov. Cuomo and 7.1% for Sliwa, the founder of the Guardian Angels.
